An Exit to the Quindio River

Torrent Ducks (Merganetta armata) are frequent in the river. There are 12 couples in a 7 km journey in front of the El Cairo house, entering the Cocora Valley. We have spent several days recreating ourselves with his presence and observing his particular behavior. They act in stable pairs and the rearing of their chicks is unimaginable: While the male supervises and watches over the territory, the female takes the ducks, one at a time, and teaches them to handle the torrents, while the others remain sheltered in a cave. between the rocks. On the last walk to the River we had the company of L.G. Olarte, J.D. Ramirez and L.E. Mejía, who visited us from Medellín. It was a very successful afternoon for everyone.
